I think it's an American Goldfinch in winter plumage.

Goldfinches love Niger seed. We have them in the UK but they look slightly different.

Nice pictures too

Nice pictures.. great detail.

Interesting to note you have goldfinches down there, from where you live to where I live, that's a huge winter range. I wonder if we could train some "carrier finches" and send notes back and forth.

I hardly know one bird from another, but I do know good photos when I see them . . . . . and I certainly see 'em here. Congrats, my friend - nice job.

They are called thistle or niger seed and the goldfinches love them.Make sure that the feeder has a small opening as you can see the seeds are very small.---charliezap

Thank you guys! I appreciate it, and I see my little "Don't Fall Asleep" birdie got on the front page of Highest Rated in the World Pentax Day thread! Exciting for me, never got anything like that before!

Shot him through a double pane window as a quick grab...he was about 15 feet away. Love these little Goldfinches, and they love those Niger Seeds!

Norm...... Otis says he would like for you to strap a sack of peanuts on your Goldfinches and send them this direction. If it works he will see if he can strap on a Possum and send you one for Possum Salad! I tried to tell him not everyone likes Possum Salad, but you know Otis!

Best Regards!

He is a little cutie!

Thank you Susan...they are fun little Birdies to watch! They sure love that niger seed! Expensive seed, but well worth it if it keeps them warm on a chilly day like today....I'm suffering in this 45F weather, after all our recent 80F + days.

Regards!
