Long Billed Corella
Lens: Viv(Tokina) 300m f5.5 Camera: K20D Photo Location: Melbourne ISO: 1600

I was trying to get some closeup shots of some Galahs feeding on grass seeds, when this Long Billed Corella dropped in, then they all got chased off by a dog, a little later I found him in isolation, and he allowed me to get pretty close, in fact I'm sure he would have allowed a head & shoulders portrait, but in the end I was restricted by the 20ft min focus of the lens. but I was pretty happy to get these

I'm not sure about in the wild but the birds along this track seemed pretty used of humans, there are normally Galahs around as well and they seem to get spooked if you get within about 30ft or so and they all fly off. This Corella on its own let me get much closer, but was still very watchful. They can be domesticated pretty much like cockatoos or parrots I think.

Wow CC, what a privilege to see these in the wild, beautiful birds but I bet with that beak, they could bite you pretty good. All I have bird wise are ravens and a few hummingbirds, great up close shots.

thanks for your kind words Bob, you do sometimes forget whats on your front door step, I enjoy viewing the Humming birds, Road runners, Eagles, Vultures, Owls etc etc.. and all the varieties you have there, I guess that's what makes PF so great.

cheers
CC.

Nice photos. Unusual to see on on it's own as they usually flock in large numbers.

I've seen this flock of Galahs several times now and this Corella always seems to be around when the Galahs are, I think he must be an honorary member of the flock.

thanks daacon, I was pleased this guy hung around and posed for about 10 minutes, in the end I had to tell him that was all, I had enough.
