Things to see around Homer
Posted By: slowpez, 02-09-2012, 07:45 AM

There is so much to see and do in this part of Alaska that it was really hard to leave.

Anchor Point where they haul boats in and out of the water via tractors

Pano of Anchor Point

Cruise to Halibut Cove for lunch at the Saltry (very expensive but worth the price) and look for wildlife along the way

Take a ride down East End Rd. and see Russian influence

Another cruise to Seldovia to search for more wildlife and see this tiny artist colony that specializes in wood carvings

Well, it is off to Seward next. Hope you will come along.

Excellent Susan love the Pano - and very cool tractors taking the boats out - this is a most excellent adventure looking forward to Steward!

More great shots Susan.
Care to share with us what equipment you brought along for all these wonderful shots?

Thanks,

Tim

Hi Tim, I took the 16-44 for landscape and the 55-300 for wildlife. Used the K-7 until we got to Arizona when my husband gave me a K-5 because the noise of the K-7 was driving me nuts. The 55-300 stays on my camera almost all the time and when on a boat that is the only lens I used. I carry a tripod 95% of the time but, of course, it was useless on a moving boat which is why I ended up with a higher ISO than the K-7 could handle most of the time.

Thanks all for the comments. I appreciate having the company on the return journey.

Sounds like - along with all the shots you got - HE might be a "keeper" as well!

You are right about that one Tim. After 46 years I'm not about to get rid of a good thing.

Your adventure continues and thanks for taking us with you. What I find wonderful is viewing the boat/tractor photo and then looking up and such beautiful mountains surround you. What a treat for you guys. What month are we in now?

Cool shots of what - I suspect - is pretty cool water. No sailboats - which means Alaskans are afflicted with too much common sense.

Thanks Bob, Jason and Jer. It is now July in Alaska. Lots of daylight but the weather is still dreary most days. That is indeed a Tufted Puffin Jason. We also saw some Horned Puffins but they were not as plentiful as the Tufteds. Love those little guys.
