Had never heard of Mummers or this parade in particular - learning on this forum is certainly NOT limited to Pentax and photography.
Thanks! This was actually my first time attending the parade.
Originally posted by Sefirato I think why the attendance is down is because of the crime going up in Philly, especially near downtown. It's been getting worse over time and people are pretty much afraid to go out and watch the parade in person. I'm quite sure there are many that were watching it on TV.
FYI, I'm a Philly native to the suburb of Southampton.
Crime is a big problem in Philadelphia. I think the lax major has a lot to do with it. But, we're getting a new one. But I did see at least 2 police officers on every corner. Literally every corner.
Originally posted by Jodokast96 I just think people have better things to do. I don't know, I've lived in nearby South Jersey all my life and just never saw the draw anyway, so maybe I'm not the best person to give an opinion.
The parade usually starts at 9:00 am.....on New Years...really, who wants to get up that early. This year there was a 2 1/2 hour delay. I can't vouch for last year, but there was a lot of people there this year.
Thanks for the comments everyone.
