Portrait & glass
Lens: Tamron 90 2.8 macro Camera: k-x
Posted By: tessfully, 02-19-2012, 06:42 AM

I am away more than I am home right now and rarely have access to the internet. While home I catch up with my life and take tons of photos. Here is one from yesterday I thought very cool.

Portrait ... guess who?

And while at my grandparents I take photos of their collections. One day I'll put together a series, but I thought some people might light to see these old cameras...

thanks for looking

Tess, that first one is stunning. I love everything about it. Fascinating collections your grandparents have. They even have Sir Walter Raleigh in a can. I remember when we used to call people up on the phone and ask if they had Sir Walter in a can and then giggle and tell them they had better let him out or he would die. Good heavens, that was the worst thing we ever did as children. Times have certainly changed.

thank you Susan and snappy chappy! The first is a portrait of Norman standing up on a hill with the forest behind him... the second one in a very large series I am developing... I should really dust everything in the basement and start over.

thanks again for looking and for the nice comments!

Tess, the first one is very interesting reminds me of a "Space and Time" reflection. Whatever that means.

Thanks so much for commenting Bob! Yes, space and time are definitely factors in that first image

Captainbert, I always enjoy your comments, thank you!! I took that first using a Freeman Patterson experiment. I composed and focussed the image, set up a long exposure, then I set the timer for 2 seconds and moved the camera in small circles around my subject as the seconds wound down and the shutter released. It is always fun with surprising outcomes

Wow, I don't know how I missed this thread. That first shot is really intriguing! A very cool experiment, Tess. Would love to try that technique sometime, makes for a wonderful abstract shot!

Thanks for the wonderful comments Lori and Dave! Lori, these types of experiments are addictive. Coincidently, I just read an article by a professional photographer who recently experimented in this sort of way... he felt many of his images picked up the very essence or spirit of the forest. I was delighted to see the article and totally agree with his perspective. Thanks again!

How cool. The first one is compelling - mysterious and calming at the same time.

Holy cow - I hadn't thought of that in years. I remember hollering into the phone: "let him out before he suffocates." Seemed daring then.
