My son's first "fiver"
Lens: Cunor 200mm Camera: K-x Photo Location: South Africa ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/500s Aperture: F8

One of the few times I could get away from work to watch my son (16) play a cricket match for his high school's first team, and got rewarded with him getting a "fiver" (five wickets in an innings)

The shots were taken with my K-x and old Cunor 200mm preset, hand held, and were all cropped +-50%

Christo, I never really studied the game of cricket so I don't know the importance of a "fiver", but it must be something like striking out the side in baseball? They dress very neatly don't they, hard to tell which team is what. I am going to read a little bit on this sport, interesting. Bob

Speaking from only slightly less benighted ignorance of cricket, but each side only gets 10 outs for the game, so a fiver is a big deal, closer in significance (and rarity) to a no-hitter.

Congrats to your lad, altopiet!

Hi Bob, baro-nite hits the nail on the head, getting a fiver is probably the most difficult achievement for a bowler, except for taking a hat trick, three wickets with three consecutive balls. Thanks baro-nite, and thank you both for taking a look.

Thanks Bruce, the old preset lens surprised me, but 200mm is a bit short for cricket, I'll have to make a serious appeal to the "minister of finance" (as usual, the wife), to get the DA55-300mm

Nice shots of a great achievement , although I am one of those ignorants when it comes to the rules of cricket, but I understand matches can last for days.

Thanks daacon. The original form of the game is played over a 5 day period, with each side getting 2 innings to bat and bowl. One team consist of eleven players, and in one innings one of the teams bat and try to accumulate as many runs as possible, and the other team try bowling them out for as little runs as possible. Shorter versions of 50 overs a side which lasts less than a day, and now also 20 overs a side, called T20, in which each team gets only 20 overs(6 balls per over) to hit as many runs as possible, and the other team must try and get 10 wickets, as a team consists of eleven players. Cricket which is popular in most of the previous British colonies, as it originated in England, has quite a large following outside the Americas.
