Australian Kookaburra
Posted By: Barnster, 02-23-2012, 05:04 PM

This is the famous laughing Australian bird ,The kookaburra.He/she was perched in the middle of the day on this plank in my yard with a worm or twig in it's mouth. So I had to be quick to get a shot in before it flew away, and unfortanely I didn't have a long lens on the K100D,so I had to use the other brand name that did.But still,I wanted to share these few images with you all. These would have to be one of my favourite Australian bird.

Someone is going to have to come down off the mountain if they want Kookaburra pics.
Neat pics Barnster, Arjay and Kennod.
Might add this steak bandit to the thread.

The top one looks like a Blue Wing, judging by the paler beak and barring on the breast? How far north in Qld did you photograph it, Arjay?
Looking more carefully, the dark feathers on the side of the head are missing as well.

Hi Rob, I live in Bamaga which is at the tip of Cape York. The one on the AQIS warning sign is indeed a blue wing now that you point it out - I was just going by the % of blue in the wings -some we see are almost 90% blue - very striking.

Thanks Arjay! I've never managed to get that far north in Qld; the closest I've been is Cape Tribulation, which is what, 1000km to the south?
I've seen Blue Wings as far south as Rockhampton.
