Visit from the Farrier
Lens: DA40mm Ltd Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Askhma, England ISO: 800 Aperture: F2.8
Posted By: mark lj, 02-24-2012, 12:49 PM

I've cross posted one of these in the DA lens club but I've gone through the whole visit now. I'd wanted to catch the farrier the next time he visited my wifes horse. Had it in my head that I wanted to catch a pair of hands emerging from the smoke. The hen just came round the back of me and I never take bird shots so took one of her as well. It was fun to do something other than landscapes.

All great! Chicken is saying, "I am glad I am not a horse!"

I think I may still like the BW the best.

The first and last are my favorites also. The B&W really suits the photo. There also seems to be just the right amount of smoke in the first one.

Thanks - the first one is easily my favourite as well. I was trying out a technique a pal uses when I did the chicken shot and I was quite pleased with it as a quick shot. Next to no processing on the image.

I support the other preferences. B/W is ideal for the subject and is well executed. Nice chook too.

When showing a series it is usually a good idea to have them all with the same post-processing, otherwise the viewer will start comparing and stuff, but great photos. I like how you captured the moment up close and the smoke adds a great visual detail. The black and white one is really striking. The chicken photo is also interesting, you don't usually see them that way. Well, at least I don't, living in a city..

I have to agree, I also liked the first and last most. Number two and three made me feel pain for the horse.

Thank you all - appreciate all the positive comments. I enjoyed the series as a real change from my norm. I just need to work out what the next series will be. Quite fancy some sort of series on other countryside workers.
