I like the pic a lot. The beatle looks very much like the soldier beatle with better colours lol.
We have a bunch of different beetles around here. The "
Tiger Beetles" we have a few different ones, including the "
Northeastern Beach Tiger Beetle" (which is a protected endangered species) and the famed
Near Extinct "
Puritan Tiger Beetle". I think there are only a few thousand of the Puritan Tiger Beetles left on the planet and they can only be found in two places:
Quote: The Puritan tiger beetle is found only in two small areas which are separated by over 600 miles, one along the Connecticut River, in New England, and the other along the Chesapeake Bay, in Maryland. In the Connecticut River Valley, the species distribution follows the sand and clay deposits formed by glacial lakes during the last ice age.
People travel from all over the country to get a glimpse and to learn about them. I will be setting up a couple trips this year for other pentaxians to come on down for a day of shooting these guys...
Originally posted by Bob Harris nice job Joe, I knew you couldn't keep that macro packed away for too long.
Yep Bob, was itching to get out and shoot some bug macro's. What happened was I went out with the 400mm hoping to get some shots of some Red Shouldered Hawks and noticed out of no where the tiger beetles along the sand trails - I quickly ran out of the field and drove back home and grabbed the macro equipment...

Hopefully the "Six-Spotted Tiger Beetle" will be out soon, I really love the color on them (metallic green with a little purple and blue)...
