Dec. 4th, 2007 Pano - it was a beautiful sunset...
Posted By: Marc Langille, 01-05-2008, 12:21 PM

Parked just off the highway on my way home, and took these with the DA 12-24. Taken at F/4., 1/125 sec, 24mm, ISO 100:

Lighting conditions were difficult, since I couldn't meter only off the brightest part of the sky. It's almost 4 full frames stitched together - actual image dimensions are 7128 x 2126 pixels...

EDIT: With the exception of one early pano, all of my panos are done hand held, nothing more. As Stu indicated, time is of the essence. Otherwise I would've lost more than a few opps...

No tripod - even though it's in my car!

Cheers,
Marc

Fantastic sky! Inevitably, when I see a sky like this, I either don't have my camera or I'm at least 20 minutes away from an open view of the sky :-(

It's beautiful Marc, very nicely done.

I don't know how often I've had the same thing happen to me dkittle, it seems that I'm usually in the car with no chance of stopping until about 2 seconds after the effect has disappeared.

Very beautiful in deed. The clouds and the sky are as dramatic as they can be

That is an awesome sunset Marc. The exposures and stitching look perfect. Maybe this would be a candidate for Stu's large canvas print idea.

Creator's ingenuity captured by a photographic maestro!
Such landscapes are always challenging, but you've done very well Marc.
Thanks for sharing.

Amazing shot!

You're absolutely right, it was a great sunset.

This makes me want to capture the sunset tonight and hope it's half as good as yours

Thanks to both of you! It's actually an uncommon scene around here. Somehow, mother nature always seems to have 1 glorious sunset in December...

Thanks Stu! I agree -that's why all panos are now hand held, so I don't "miss the moment".

Thanks James - it was beautiful. And I sat quietly in my car with an open window enjoying it...

Thanks Peter! I took my time with this shoot (ie. spent 5-10 minutes shooting). I may take your suggestion under consideration...

Cheers,
Marc

Marc,

I love this shot!! Do you live by an airfield or something to get all those cloud streaks? The color is wonderful..

I like the depth of it as well.. it seems like the middle of the picture goes on and on.....

Great pic!! Thanks for sharin.. Kim

Thanks Kim! Actually I do, but it's not near the airfield where I took this picture. That is a small grass strip private airfield with single engine prop planes. Our regional airport is further north, and the Air National Guard base is around 45 miles south... stray planes???

Yes, this is the land of "the uneven" - flat land is rare around this part of the world. I too liked the perspective. If I just drive 45 minutes west, and I'm past some of the few hilly sections in the eastern section of Oklahoma...

Cheers,
Marc
