Shark Fin - Too Much Time on my Hands & a New Lens
Posted By: Sailor, 01-05-2008, 04:50 PM

I washed and waxed my car today; by the time I'd finished (with the sun near departure) I wanted to play with my new DA 18-250. Here are three shots of the "shark fin" on the car that houses various antenae. The last two are (obviously) B&W conversions.

great lighting on 3 and 4, the b&w really make it "modern art"

Looks like you've done an excellent job with the B&W conversion and the last one is definitely my favourite

The controlled lighting is superb here. The last shot is my favorite

Nice job on a relatively common object. I like how the shadows and reflections are making interesting pattersn in the B&W. I have one of these on my car and never even thought about photographing it.

Really good eye Jer, you've taken a common everyday object and made me look at it in a completely different way. And like many others have said that third shot is really something special. Thanks for sharing your vision.

NaCl(great chiaroscuro here my friend)H2O

Thanks, everyone, for the encouraging comments. To get the last one, I used a step ladder - so I did have to work a little bit. This sort of thing is what makes photography fun.

I noticed that earlier myself. They seem to be back now. Heaven knows why.

I don't understand this. When I look at this and a few other threads with my computer at work, the pictures are replaced with boxes containing red "X's". At home, the pictures are clearly visible. And . . . . . this behavior is not consistent. For example for my thread, "Ridin' in the Roadster . . . .", the photos are visible on both my home and work computers, while with this thread, I only see the images on my home machine. And, as I indicated, I see the same behavior with threads started by others.

Anybody got a explination for this? Maybe I'm doing something wrong with posting, but I'm following the same procedure I've always used with no problems (of which I'm aware) showing up until recently.

Thanks,

Jer

Not sure why, but if I try to copy and paste the direct link to your pics in a new browser tab, I get "Page Not Found":

Really odd. When I opened this thread here at home, the images popped right up. Just as an experiment, I'm posting one of the shots from the OP below:

My wife, who thinks the pictures I pasted onto the OP are "idiotic", believes the real explination lies in advanced software in some computers that filters out the "silly stuff." She believes you are one of the lucky owner of such a computer .
