When there is no XBOX
Lens: DA* 50-135 Camera: K5 Photo Location: Playa Potrero, Costa Rica
Posted By: daacon, 03-01-2012, 07:12 AM

While basking in the sun on our last day there I noticed something on the beach. I looked I could see no generator , no controllers,no console, no screen , this appeared to be actual kids actually playing outside!

it's a sight I do not often see here (well let's ignore the fact I am 1000 miles from the nearest ocean ha!) - and it was joy to watch kids being kids.

Great series Dave and nice to see kids having fun without being glued to a piece of modern technology. All those kids and not a cell phone in sight. Amazing.

amen dave.... as kids, we were always told to go out and play.... of course, we'd complain and tell them we were bored and that there was nothing to do.... but we survived... low tech should be mandatory in parenting guides these days.... dave m

Kids will be kids they say, but I have a couple of grand kids that would be lost outdoors. They always have something in their hand or up to their ear, the old way is the best way I think.

Thanks Susan I know !! Although in Costa Rica almost everyone has a Cell phone - the plans are so anyone can afford them I think the higest you can get is like $10.00/mo unlmited, so I am sure there have them somewhere.

Thanks Dave exactly - tis human nature to bitch and whine the current generation does it as well jut in a different context (damn it I can't get past this level!) and I agree , I am going to start telling stories of how I only had a rock and a stick to play with and I was damn happy

Great pics! Yes, it's sad that this paranoid age has all the kids indoors far too much. We were all pretty carefree as kids -- leave the house and run all around the neighborhood and town far before we were even 10. The world is actually safer these days than it was then. Crime rates are lower than 30-40 years ago. People are just much more paranoid now.

All that commentary aside, you've made some great captures here. Well framed and well exposed. Very nice. Thank you for sharing them!

Excellent shots Dave, the last two I find most appealing. Great work. And yes our kids are wrapped in to much cotten wool.

Cheers
Shane

Thanks yucatanPentax not sure I agree the world is safer overall maybe in some areas but the art of entertaining yourlsef with a stick and rock is certainly gone
