Cliff, I read a couple of years ago they were mining gold up there, did you see any evidence of that? The place hasn't changed much in the last 20 years.

Thanks for looking guys. Without human intervention nature will eventually reclaim just about everything, Garlock is still in work. The last commercial gold mine at Randsburg ceased operation about10 years ago. There is still one mine in operation in the Panamint Valley, They already had this one, CR Briggs, in reclamation when the price of gold started to skyrocket, stopped reclamation then went back to active mining....Cliff

Heinrich, thanks for looking. The HiDesert is filled with history and interesting historical information. There are several of the abandoned former mining townsites. There is another out near Death Valley that I want to photograph....Cliff

Makes me want to visit Garlock, although the accommodations look pretty basic, maybe even rustic. Wouldn't mind passing through, but I don't think I'll ask triple-A to book one of those places for a week's stay. Old towns offer so many photo-ops. Burned through several rolls of film decades back on a visit to the well-known town of Bodie. A very nice set.

Walt, thanks for looking. No, I don't think Garlock will show up on very many AAA sites for accommodations. There is at least one resident the lives in the building to the left of the Garlock store........Cliff

Charley & Dave, thanks for looking. time is not kind to things abandoned to the desert. The walls of the one structure were constructed of railroad ties and the others of 1X10 planks. Twenty miles to Ridgecrest and 10 miles to the thriving metropolis of Randsburg of which I have posted before.........Cliff

This is such an interesting series, presented with so much intrigue! "Rattle Snake Area ... Private Property!" Ha! Love the railway tie building. I would have taken hundreds of photos... thank you so much for sharing these!!!
