Portrait exercise - Toronto
Posted By: danielchtong, 03-11-2012, 06:06 PM

A (mainland) Chinese website in Toronto did conduct a contest (say Miss Yorkbbs then I believe). The mall where it took place has horrific white balance (all over the place). I took some images and only the first one was done in raw ( a format that I am not familiar with).

Anyway I am using an open source graphic software called Gimp under Ubuntu to convert to jpg. It is free , sophisticated and handy. All done with Pentax DA200mm - no flash

The first image is a bit flat - try the curves tool to introduce a bit more contrast and make the whites brighter. The second shot is awesome! The last two seem a little soft by comparison.

I agree. The second shot is the winner here. But decent compositions all around. Tough lighting situation.
Thanks for sharing.

#2 in the first series is the winner (in your photos) by a long shot! Not just a matter of focus (although it's the best there as well), but the pose, the catchlights in the eyes, and that smile... very nice!
