It's been crazy at work, so I haven't really had a chance to do any photography for weeks. Went out with the family and at least took my camera with me...

Fantastic shots! Especially #3.
I've never done much macro, so I'm wondering, how do you get a picture like #1 or #3? Do you set the camera up and just wait? It seems that butterflies don't like to sit around long and are easily scared away. How did you manage to get these?

Thanks everyone! GeoJerry....I was at an indoor garden here in Victoria so it was a little easier to get close to the butterflies but you are right, they don't sit still.

Using a 200mm lens really helps get close enough, although technically I'm not using the "macro" portion of the lens. It does allow me to focus a little closer than many 200mm lenses out there. I was running around with the kids so no time for a tripod etc. I basically found something interesting, focused close to where it was then waited to see if something came into view so I could adjust and take a pic. Usually the kids would run off and I would have to try again somewhere else.
