It's sweetgum season, and after a hard day of bringing in the harvest, I love to kick back and relax with a glass of armagnac while preparing some of my favorite dishes.

Bon appétit!

That is a super fun image. The contrast and textures really work. At home we call those pods ankle breakers

Thank you! In addition to all those fine qualities they are also very comfortable to sit on.

I finally see a fitting use for sweet gum droppings, which I detest (although I admit to a sneaking satisfaction at noise they make when decimated by the lawn mower). A very clever shot - creatively conceived and expertly executed.

Nice setup on your photo, cool shot there Jeff. I am not familiar with these, but probably not a good idea to go barefoot when they are falling.

I have a tree next to my yard, so have been picking up and raking a lot of these lately -- I thought they had to be good for something else! Thanks for the kind comments.

Indeed. Another nice thing about them is how numerous they are -- one tree must produce over a thousand each year. I call it "the giving tree" -- very generous with these, with odd clustered flower stalks, and with leaves in autumn. In fairness, though, it is an attractive tree and useful for hardwood lumber. Thanks for the comments!

Thanks Charlie. I thought it would be fun to contrast the very rough looking sweetgum pods against a clean white setting. A little tricky because the pods are pretty dark; I had to do some PP to bring them up a bit.

Thanks Tess -- now I know how to classify it! I'm just getting into flash work so this was a first effort of this kind for me. Am now contemplating what I want for a mini-studio setup.
