A before and after shot or opposites, if you like.

And another take. With a black background. All shot indoors with natural light. Not sure if I should crop some off the top of the shot below.

Hi,
composition is more pronounced on a black background. I vote for number two!

I would have guessed flash, just because of how well controlled and shaped the light is. I think the uncropped version of #2 works very well. It would also work well as Den suggests, but I think the uncropped version is a little more of an unusual take and creates more of a sense of space and mystery.

I agree with baro-nite on not cropping. I really like the sense of space and it makes the flowers stand out so much more having been given the breathing room they need. The first one is a beauty also. There is something about the center of the fully open flower and the pale surrounding area that I quite like.

Second one is gorgeous. Nice rich tones against a deep black background, with the second bud giving it some more depth. Love it.

I think I would have nipped a bit of the top background off, but not too much, and more because I'm fussy about sticking to common aspect ratios than anything else. The extra space does work with it aesthetically.

very nice shots, the second is more dramatic with the black background but it also has better detail in the petals, I'm ok with space at the top, ... maybe just a little bit.

Two very nice images and I like the cropping just the way it is. Thanks for posting them.

The second shot is my favorite. And as others have said, the cropping looks just fine.

Thank you for all the positive comments, the lighting is natural light from a large window a large white reflector was used to soften any shadows.
