I have a Vivitar Series 1 90 macro which - I believe - is (nearly?) the same lens as your Tokina. And I agree with your sentiment: My 90 is my favorite lens!

Yeah the vivitar has the same optical elements but with different coatings and a better build quality (though the Tokina's is just fine). When I first got the lens I wondered why it didn't sell for double what I paid for it. It's frustrating that great lenses like these aren't still in production.
