Venus De Flytrap
Lens: Sigma 18-55 (Macro) Camera: K7 Photo Location: York, PA ISO: 100

My wife bought a Venus Flytrap and we were wondering if the thing would ever catch a fly. With the warmer weather we've had some windows open and several annoying flys buzzing around. Just back from a day out hiking we found this...

Yeah, they're amazing things. Had one a decade or so ago, but it only lasted about six months. Be careful not to overfeed.
Pretty good shot - I like your capture of the fly shadow.

I once lived a couple miles from a nursery (the world's largest) specializing in bug-eating plants, the old CALIFORNIA CARNIVORES site on the Russian River in Forestville -- they've since moved a few miles to Sebastopol, about an hour north of San Francisco. Their recommendation for dealing with household insects: one or two pitcher plants in a home. Before long, all the flying bugs have just disappeared. But flytraps are more dramatic, eh?
