Shots using my +3 close focus
Posted By: xs400, 01-12-2008, 09:43 AM

Recently, several others have posted shots made using extension tubes. I don't have any extension tubes yet, but I do have a +3 close focus filter. Here are a few shots I got using the +3 close focus filter and my DA 50-200mm. None of the shots were cropped, just levels adjustment and resized.

These have come up extremely well for the close up filters ... normally there's shocking vignetting associated with it ... these have come out excellent though.

Thanks for comments. I am happy with the results from my close focus filter. The filter was inexpensive and gave me a good introduction taking close ups - I can't really call them macros, can I? Anyway, I do plan to get either the extension tubes or a macro someday.

Of course you can. Refer to the definitions of macro photography in the first two paragraphs of this article. A close-up lens (filter or attachment) easily meets the definition in either paragraph. Nice images, by the way. Especially like the image of the watch.

Yowza, that DOF w/o cropping and the sharpness is exceptional.... who needs macro in that case! I have to believe you were using a tripod?

Thanks again for the comments.

I was indeed using a tripod. To get the DOF on the shots, I had it stopped down to f22 and the exposure was about 1 sec. Lighting was just an old desk lamp. (I really should get something better for lighting.)
