Why we don't feed Squirrels
Posted By: spyglass, 01-12-2008, 09:38 PM

I gave in and gave this little guy a few Spitz, and the next thing I know he starts whining about being thirsty from the salt and looking for a sip of my beer........ A guy has to know when to draw the line !

That is why we don't feed the critters.

Look at the Nasty Guy that Stu captured while walking in the woods (and Mtnbearhug wanted to Stu to feed him)

They will take your hand off or gun you down for a seed.

Haha give the squirrel a cowboy or a Tilly hat and it would be perfect!

LoL @ the Alvin comment! I wonder when he's gonna come back to PF, seems to have been gone for some time.

The Chipmonk in the first shot was fast and timid. I originally did not want to bait him to the shot, but after 20 snaps and 20 blurs/bad captures I decided to cheat a little. I placed the Spitz on the rock and slowly easied my way forward. It took about an hour of me moving slowly forward and the chipmonk zipping to a fro to get up close enough to capture a nice sharp shot with the stock kit lens. Generlly I find that these little guys are very aggressive and warm up fast. Due to the selcluded spot I do not thing he had much experience with people (hopefully I left a good impression on him).

The second shot is from our very own Little Laker (Stu). I just couldn't resist adding the gun belt to him after Mtnbearhug suggected that Stu feed the squirrel and Stu commenting on how mean he looked. I was going to put a knife in his mouth too, but decided that I had probably done enough

Very nice shot!

Just the other day, I was eating lunch outside when a squirrel jumped out of the trashcan with a Burger King sauce thing....he deftly pulled the top all the way off, then began licking.....after going all around, he gnawed off one edge in order to get all the way into the corners...itw as pretty funny. He had hs head inside of this sauce box thing, holding it with two paws, it looked like he ws trying to hide his face from me! Sadly, I did not have a camera handy.

Spyglass you crack me up!!!!! The creativity you have when coming up with some of this stuff is amazing...

plus... actually your picture just proves my point all along.. if you had a squirrel with a loaded gun... would you say "no" when he told you to feed him??? It is just better to be prepared and plan on it instead!!!! LOL so you see... I was only looking out for Stu's best interest....

Thanks for the Monday morning smile!!! Kim
