Fantastic set, especially the little tit (blue tit?) in the first picture.

It takes more than just great equipment to get such fine shots - your talent and your understanding of bird behavior really shine through each of these!

Great clarity on 1,2, and 4. How far were you from those and did you use any support of any kind?

These are really great. I use pretty much the same equipment but I usually shoot from a monopod because my bird photography and walking the dog typically have to go together. I still don't know what I'm doing with a speedlight and better beamer. Do you set the flash on manual, full power or are you using P-TTL? And I notice from your gear shot that you have the flash diffuser pulled out. What does that do? Any advice on setup and settings would be appreciated.

Russ,
The catch light panel was pulled out but I don't use it when taking bird shots [you don't need it].
I mostly use the flash on P-TTL and high speed sync and manual sometimes.
If it's a clear sunny day then I use high speed sync [or no flash] this reduces the range/power of the flash but I still use exposure compensation + or - to vary the exposure .Birds up in trees are very easy to over expose, so my settings change by the minute ,it really depends on where the bird is, how far away, how light it is. I just guess how much flash to use .
My advice to you is just experiment with settings and see what works best for you, also test your flash/beamer on an object
when it's starting to get dark so that you can make sure the Beamer is adjusted correctly on the flash, move it up or down slightly to get the best aim.
Hope this helps
