Street Vision L.A.
Posted By: jgredline, 04-28-2012, 06:57 PM

Hi Folks.
I was told I should choose some of my favorite street pictures and put them here, so here I am. These are in no particular order. I let flickr choose these for me as I have no clue what to place here.
Thanks for looking.

Javier - All great ones!

The 3rd and the 4th ones in the first post are great; looks like in the 4th one gang members are sizing you up getting ready to go in for the kill - too funny!!! (well, funny, but not really funny as it looks a little sketchy)...

Being from LA these were great fun to look through. I really like your style, especially the couple in #3 (looks like the Getty Center?). I also liked #8 a lot. The lighting on the woman gives it a bit of a surreal quality.

Question though, what was going on in #2?

+1 on the question.

There is this bipolar mix of folks who were happy to be photographed and those who were much less so (okay, I'm putting it mildly, they look like they want to kill you)

Some great stories. Keep up the good work.

Great work as always Javier - LA must be an amazing place to shoot street, just for the eccentricity of it's inhabitants !

I'm surprised you survived the encounter in #4 !!

Hard to say. The only ideas I could come up with are
1) Some kind of forgiveness ritual she insisted on. He did something wrong, and this was her way of being sure that he was really sorry.
2) A surprise of some sort. Perhaps this was the place they met, and it was a special occasion, and she took him here blindfolded. Her camera is ready to catch the expression on his face when he removes the blindfold.
3) A gang ritual of some kind. Maybe the woman has a prominent status in the gang, and by this ritual he is told where he stands.

Neither of them seems to have very positive body language or facial expressions, and the bound (apparently) wrists suggest an unpleasant situation. Therefore I think #2 is not so likely.

Javier, what wonderful street scenes! "Kids'n ice", "peeping old man with a PS", just priceless! XD The first one is very good as well, could fit into a good exhibition at once, I believe.

Very interesting and quite different ...

Bonjour,

Bravo ... Almost makes me wish that I lived once again in Paris ... there's some street shots to be had there! Good job in LA!

Salut, John le Frog

Great set with a lot of range, from gritty to polished, from detached observer to getting right into the scene, from funny to menacing, from exuberant to quietly desperate, from simple to mysterious. My faves are post 1 #3 and post 3 nos. 1, 3, and 4.
