Uncharacteristically Pretentious
Posted By: Mike Cash, 01-15-2008, 05:26 AM

Slipping past the "Unauthorized Persons Keep Out" sign, I entered the corridor leading to the backstage facilities of our local Culture Hall, where elementary school bands from throughout the city had gathered to rehearse for an upcoming band festival. Instrument cases and various personal effects cover the floor of the lobby area at the far end of the corridor.

Just so folks don't get the idea I was there perving the place, I was on my way back from shooting my dancing girls and stopped off to pick up my daughter. I had time to kill and a digital camera; I was a dangerous man.

Quite truthfully, I had you in mind when I took it.

And I agree with you about dark photos. I rather like them myself. Not all the time, but I certainly have no problem giving over huge chunks of a photo to near or total blackness.

Mike, you are DEFINATELY danger-man with a camera-in-hand.
Well done buddy. Are these original colours or have you done PP? Either way, it is a nice shot.

I just knew that there would be light at the end of the tunnel!

The lights in the ceiling and their reflection on the glossy floor make the shot.

Somehow, I just couldn't imagine you without a camera.

Thanks, everyone. It was post-processed with the orange and brown layer contrast adjustment trick I outlined in the Minolta Sex for Sale thread. Naturally, that also has some effect on the colors as well as the contrast.

The mood and the lighting paints an artistic picture. Kind of spooky in a way but it works for me. Nice shot, Mike

agreed, not all the time, but huge chunks or nothingness certainly makes or breaks certain shots...

If we're playing with light then how can we possibly not include playing with dark as a part of it? And if we're playing with colors how can we exclude black? Last I heard, it was a color.

I like it. Artistically speaking, there is no incorrect exposure! I really dig it!
