My First Macro
Posted By: daacon, 01-15-2008, 11:12 AM

Well the first one that turned out anyway. Thanks to my friend Peter Zack I have my new to me Sigma 105 f2.8 Macro Lens. This is going to be fun I can tell. I can't wait until the spring and summer for the creepy crawlers to come out !

This is right out of the camera - raw to jpeg conversion with a slight adjustment to the exposure. For our non Canadian friends yes that is our two dollar coin called the toonie Can you take an economy serious that has a toonie in its currency ? There is also talk of a $5.00 coin coming out ... hard enough now to keep the pants up with a pocket full of change!

Good fun, isn't it daacon?
Challenging at the same time too - the DOF is sooooo shallow.
The little figurine doesn't look all that deep (except his fat belly), and most of it is clearly OOF.
Thanks for sharing!

Trying to keep everything in focus is a pain .... I guess just stop it down a long way and use a tripod due to extended shutter speeds .. that's the only waay I can think of getting as much of it in focus as possible.

Great start to macro work Dave and very educational for me in view of our move. We struggle with the currency. Have to keep putting my specs on to check what I'm parting with. My wife ends up handing over her purse to shop assistants sometimes for them to "help themselves". Is there always a bear on a toonie? That's a lens on my LBA list.

Thanks Paul - Gawd don't hand over your money and ask how much! Our money is like monopoly money it is all colored. Once you get use to it , it is pretty easy to recognize a particular domination by color alone. I find an iussue with USD I always look twice before I hand over a bill as they all look so similar to me.

As for the bear on a toonie - generally yes although there are several commemorative special coin releases that have other stuff.

Top shot Dave. Seems we are going to being seeing some great shots of a fly's eye, a lizards toenail or a bettles leg etc etc.
I love macro as well, its a great challenge and very enjoyable.
Keep up the good work!

Thanks Frank - Peter mentioned and reviews confirm this is indeed a very sharp lens. It only took me 3 or 4 attempts to get in all in focus!

Thanks LaRee - not much crawling around or blooming this time of year here - but spring and summer are not that far off. (advantage of age - time flies )

If you have a penny and a tooney what's in the middle. Nice shot I have been trying macros and close ups and seeing how hard it is to keep in focus.

Oh no you've struck gold with a new great lens! You'll love that lens and I'd reccomend it to anyone looking for a macro lens. Can't wait to see you use it out in the field!
