My first squirrel
Posted By: xs400, 01-15-2008, 08:02 PM

I would really like to have the opportunity to take some shots of birds or squirrels in my backyard. Unfortunately, I don't get many animal visitors in my yard. The other morning, just after sunrise I was able to catch a shot of this guy sitting on my back fence. BTW, I have a cat, that's why I don't get many shots like this. K100D and DA 50-200.

Great catch. Unlike city squirrels, between the fear of the felines and us, these guys can be very skittish. I agree with the composition comments. Really nice!

Great Photo. I almost never see squirrels in my backyard. My wife's dogs seem to keep them scared away

Beautiful shot Frank.

Now that you've gotten your first you'll get several more.

Here's a little tip. Squirrels seem to pop out of thin air when you stop moving for a short time.

I almost hate to say it, but I've gotten more squirrel pictures right after I relieved myself while on nature walks than all the other times put together That's when I usually suddenly see them.

Thanks everyone for your nice comments. I'll certainly try to get some more shots like this. I'll keep my cat inside and try not to make any fast moves when I'm out looking for some animals to photograph. Thanks for the advice.
