One of the stops we made was of course the iconic Lake Louise. I really wanted to show Karen the 10 peaks at Moraine Lake , however that road was still closed (does not open until June or late May if it is nice). The weather was unbelievable , approaching at least mid teens Celsius. I was comfortable without a jacket. Lake Louise was the highest elevation we hit on this trip and man could not believe all the snow that was still there. Some facts of the area:
- The elevation of Lake Louise is 1,536 m (5,039 feet), the highest permanent settlement in Canada.
- 3 million: the number of people who visit each year.
- 1882: Horse outfitter Tom Wilson, with guidance from a Stoney Indian, discovered Lake Louise.
Here are a few snaps we took
The first couple are the ones eveyone has probably seen.
Fairmont Chateau Hotel Lake Louise
The Mountain Range just to the left (there is a trail you can take there to get to the glacier on Lake Louise was not open yet of course)
Just to give you a sense of how much snow is there - that big foot in the picture is about 6'2" (growing horizontal and shrinking vertical...
) Just noticed a sensor spot ...time to do a cleaning
