the Kx @ Death Valley
Posted By: Bob Harris, 05-06-2012, 07:34 PM

The last month, we have posted several threads on different parts of Death Valley using the K-5 and an assortment of lens and also Terri's Optio A40 point/shoot thread. I decided to shoot Death Valley using only the Kx and kit lens to see how it would stand up to not only my photos but others that I have viewed. Here are five of many photos that I took, hope you enjoy the view from the Kx.

Hi Bob, you seem to have a good copy of the DA L 50-200. I must say, I would not want to be left alone in that place; it seems as if not much can stay alive in that valley for long.
Christo, I can't imagine what the Pioneers must of thought when they arrived in and crossed through Death Valley. There was a stretch of almost 4 years when DV did not receive any rain at all. Thanks for taking a look, always appreciated. Bob

The s/w has a lot of varied landscapes to view and photograph. If you are ever able to visit, allow plenty of time to soak up the beauty. Bob

Oh Bob these are terrific! I love them all but the first and last really sing!! I love my kx and using the kx and k5 interchangeably I find the real difference comes during the soft light of early morning, but then again, I got some amazing photos from the soft light of dusk the other night with my Kx so who knows.

I am with MSL on this, you can create magic with whatever you are shooting with. Thanks for Sharing
Tess, I found that the K5 made me look like I was a better photographer right from the start. Using TAV mode is my favorite and fun to experiment with. Put a sharp lens on the K5 and all I have to worry about is pushing the button. I appreciate your kind words, thanks Bob

Charlie, we have a tendency to visit places way out of the city, love the wide open scenery and of course the peace and quiet.

Nothing wrong with the Kx - perhaps the common good tool is photographer
Point taken Dave, composition is a key element too. It is wonderful to start out with a beautiful area, really makes photography enjoyable even if the photos aren't quite right.

Another terrific series. I don't care that much what camera/lens combo is used. The results speak for themselves. #4 is special in my mind

Great shots. Curious, did you shoot in RAW and used any software to process? Thanks.
