A few photos from a bird sanctuary/zoo in Tokyo, Japan.
The fence is evident in some of the photos.
Just edited these jpegs quickly in Picasa.

Personally, I'm not keen on zoos as a whole,only if they are able to replicate an animals(in this case, birds)natural enviroment with plenty of space.
The birds were in cages, but would have preferred to see them in their natural habitat.

Great shots of some beautiful birds mickey. The lapwing is so dainty looking and I really like the shot of the night heron drinking. I have never seen black swans before ... very cool looking, well, they all are. Thanks too for the preamble to the photos.

I agree about their natural environment , however a zoo is a great place to see these species at a reasonable cost , nice series.

Love those black swans and the Ibis is a scene stealer. I agree that it would be wonderful if we could see birds in their natural environment and that they would always pose beautifully for us and be close enough that we wouldn't need a $5000 lens. That is why there are zoos and why they are making habitats more and more natural. Nice series.
