First decent K10D shot!
Posted By: benplaut, 01-17-2008, 01:01 AM

Waiting for the battery to charge was agonizing! I'm not terribly impressed with the sharpness of either the FA 50 1.4 or Sigma 28 1.8, but the bokeh on both is incredible, and they respond well to sharpening. This was with the 28, which is a half decent macro!

I'm not too happy with the colors--looks much more saturated in LR, and I can't get it quite right.

Hmmmm, I have the 28 1.8 from sigma and this doesn't look like anything I've ever seen from it. Are you cropping? Looks like a super heavy crop to me other than that yes the colours are nice and the bokeh is gorgeous. The 50 1.4 is sharpest stoppped down a little bit so try not to be too harsh at 1.4 or even the sigma at 1.8 because few lenses are sharp wide open like that.

I can confirm what Chris says ... I was at first a little disappoint with f/1.4 on the FA50 .... it looked soft .... then after a lot of reading about ... and seeing different reviews ... that I really should stop it down and extra stop or 2. The difference was amazing indeed.

Try the FA50 from f/2 and upwards ... the difference is amazing.

...and make sure you are using the same colorspace throughout your workflow (in regard to your "colors not quite right). I spent a week trying to figure out where did all the yellow come from on mine

@codiac: nope, that's it! I'm really pleased with the results.

Ya know what I figured out today? When you zoom in on a preview in the camera, it goes beyond 1:1 pixel ratio and starts trying to blend the pixels together. That's why everything always looks like crap on the camera screen :P

I'm using sRGB everywhere, I'm thinking it might just be that exporting to jpeg is screwing things up. Tiff looks fine in other programs.

Not bad. Make sure your colorspace's match.
