Valley of the God's
Photo Location: Mexican Hat, Utah
Posted By: Bob Harris, 05-16-2012, 06:13 PM

Valley of the Gods is a scenic sandstone valley near Mexican Hat in San Juan County, southeastern Utah. It is north of Monument Valley across the San Juan River (Colorado River), and has similar rock formations. This is a smaller scale version of Monument Valley, with tall, red, isolated mesas and cliffs standing above the level valley floor, remnants of an ancient landscape.
The Valley of the Gods area may be toured via a 17 mile dirt road (FR 242) that winds amongst the eerie formations; this is rather steep and bumpy in parts but should be passable by normal vehicles in good weather. Here are a few photos from our last visit.

I like 1 and 3, but 1 could be slightly rotated to the right to have the tress vertical, whie 3 could be cropped because the foreground does not add much IMHO.

Thank you for sharing.

I especially like the scalloped pattern in the last one.

More very fine shots Bob...I love to travel through your shooting! I've been down many dirt roads like that first one, but I bet not as many as you!

Great, Bob - I especially like the third one. These photos wonderfully portray an alien landscape.

Bob, how about we start a grass roots campaign to have the entire state of Utah made into a national park. These shots are so reflective of the area. Thanks for sharing them.

Bruce, I read where the Navajo Indians used the patterns in their blanket making. They are very similar in shape and color.

Rupert, we have just about worn out our Jeep traveling these backroads, this road was nicely kept up.

Sort of funny Lori, my younger grandchildren always ask us why we always camp in the rocks, good question I guess looking back at our travels. Thanks for taking a look here, Bob

I'm with you on that Susan, so many parks to visit and so little time as they say. Take care, Bob
