Early Winter Wanderings
Can feel it's getting wintery now in Wellington, although the rain hasn't come (yet). I've been busy with university, but also stealing some photos here and there. I was asked if I could add a little background information to some photos, so I'll try it with this set and see how we go. Although I haven't photographed too much recently, there are a few images in here I really like.
I've been thinking a bit more about composition concepts, so I apologise for the large amount of lines.

The war memorial and Lambton Quay, downtown Wellington.
I just photographed this out of the window of a bus this afternoon on the way to school. I only grabbed one decent photo through the window before we turned the corner.

A perfectly round red coffee table is interesting for photos, colour or black and white.
This is right in my lounge, and I noticed the shapes made by the shadow of the frames. The light is coming from the opposite direction, reflected back by a glass building down the road.

More play with contrast and lines.
Cellphone towers are never very pretty but they can at least be interesting.

A recent favourite.
I'd just come out of the theatre (go see A Separation, it's brilliant) and found some great late winter afternoon light. Walking up Courtney Place, central Wellington, I found these cafe tables empty, looking straight into the last five minutes of sun before it ducked behind the hill. I took a few photos and was thinking about how to use them when a guy ran across the road and through the thin strip of light. Got one photo away - made it.

Not dissimilar.
Waiting for an appointment on a sunny morning I found there was water across the road, which reflects brightly at the single sun point. The cars driving past had turned the water into lines and an interesting scene.

Winter light is great. If there is any.

Walking to Newtown, Wellington past a large building site.
I gather it's going to be a new supermarket. This guy was doing his bit.

More building going on, this time across the road from Wellington hospital.
I don't know what this one is going to be.

One of Wellington's interesting juxtapositions.
The early graveyards (now bisected by the motorway), border the central city. Walk through the botanical gardens and come out next to 1870 headstones and 1970 office blocks.

An elderly couple waiting for the bus. I didn't notice the tree was right in the middle of the frame until I stepped out to take a picture and looked through the viewfinder just as she raised her hand. Two seconds later their bus came and they were gone.
