Yosemite Again...
Camera: Pentax K-7 Photo Location: Yosemite National Park
Posted By: GeoJerry, 05-29-2012, 09:44 PM

One last flurry of Yosemite shots, and then I promise I'll give it a rest.

Late afternoon from Glacier Point, waiting for the super moon to rise.

A tree stump, apparently recently cut, on the trail up to Sentinel Dome. I was struck by the orange core (OK, so I juiced it up a bit ).

A bark closeup, I believe it's a Ponderosa pine but I could be wrong. Maybe a sugar pine? I like the day-glo fungus (lichen?) that you find all over the Yosemite high country.

Dogwood, in bloom everywhere in the valley in early May.

I like this one because it really gives you a feeling for the vastness and remoteness of the Sierra wilderness. This is taken from the top of Sentinel Dome, higher up than Glacier Point, and about a mile further away from Half Dome.

For those of us who aspire to do better landscape photography, I, for one, am glad you have not "given it a rest"! I love your stump; what a tree it must have been for hundreds of years, I would think, and a great photo of it - good tweeking, too.

Impressive landscape. I like the least one but after you had me thirsting for the supermoon I was left wanting more. Did you get a shot of it?

Thanks very much! But I think I'm out of material on this topic...

Thanks for the comment!

Yes I did get some shots of the super moon, but I didn't really like the result, and that's because of the relatively poor performance of the K-7's sensor in low light conditions. I combined two layers, using my 55-300 mm zoom maxed out. The moon shot turned out OK, but the long exposure of the mountainside left a lot to be desired in my opinion, and I thought the overall look after all the masking and dodging left it looking a little cheesy and artificial. Here's how it turned out:

Thanks for posting the moon shot. You did a lot better than I could have. I hated my K-7 in low light also.
