Venus in Transit
Lens: 1000mm Camera: Pentax K-5
Posted By: Adam, 06-05-2012, 09:58 PM

Here are some pics of Venus in front of the Sun today. Both were taken with the K-5.

The first was taken using a 200mm lens, plus a ND filter and IR filter. The next 3 were taken just before sunset using the Pentax Reflex 1000mm, using the built-in red and ND filters.

Very nice. I especially like the third shot! It reminds me of the many hours spent rendering spheres in art school.

Great shots..though upside down perhaps?

The last is interesting as it shows the atmospheric distortion we all must be aware of when taking shots low on the horizon. For me I like #1.

Cheers Paddy

I don't think they're upside down... My photos turned out the same way... Perhaps it is a difference between seeing the transit at sunrise vs. sunset? I think the shots down-under were at sunrise, right?

The shot isn't upside down. I know, I was the mule carrying Adam's equipment . It was shot at sunset in Phoenix, Arizona.

The second of the series is my favorite. By the way, Venus is near the same size as Terra... er... our planet Earth. So, this viewpoint is the most approximate to 'the measure of man' (human kind) and their home that we can see and should fill all of us... from the boy shepherd somewhere in the third world to the ruler of the mightiest nation with humbleness. Looking at our almost tween planet against the bulk of the sun is also looking at us and our fragility in this corner of the universe.
