Trees in Bryce Canyon
Lens: DA35 Macro Limited Camera: K5 Photo Location: Bryce Canyon ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/8s Aperture: F8

During our recent national parks trip we visited Bryce Canyon, Utah. Everything screams shoot wide and I did some of that, but I was also trying to get some more intimate shots, so I walked around with my 35mm. I quickly caught these trees down at the bottom of the pathway. Had to shoot quickly before people walked by. Turned out ok. I only realized after the fact that I shot it handheld at 1/8th second and it's a pretty steady shot. In camera stablization did the trick. Gave this a somewhat sepia treatment and desaturated it, but it's not far off from the colour impression of the sandstone rocks and gravel. I liked the simplicity of the scene but I wouldn't personally want to try and grow anything down there...

Good for you for creating a tightly-focused landscape shot, I think it works very well.

I agree sometimes landscapes scream for tight shots , nicely done. So what did you prefer Zion or Bryce ?

I like this one and I'm pretty sure I know the spot where these trees are. Thanks for bringing fond memories of some favorite places.

I'd go back to both in a minute. Zion was HOT! So we liked the weather better in Bryce, and it was more intimate and less busy. But Zion is amazing and we just scratched the surface.

I've only been to Bryce once. The challenge (for me, at least) with such well-known places is moving beyond the obvious subjects and points of view, as you've done beautifully here.
