I'm starting to get the hang of focusing this thing I think.

Looks like you got a winner there. Very nice lens and renders colour really well. Focus is a little tougher with the DSLR but certainly not that tough.

This is great encouragement. I just put up my SMC 50mm f/2 on ebay so I can try and find one of these 1.7s, or maybe a 1.8, just before coming here and seeing this...lol . I am having trouble with purple fringing on it and I think I may have gotten one of the later models with inferior glass.

At least I can start using it, I got it from a Forum member about 6 months for 60 bucks and got it's hard case for 12 bucks at Ebay ,,,,but just couldn't get the hang of it till I read a post in a forum on how to focus manual lenses ( A and M ones) Boy that sure helped. Thanks for saying it looked ok, My eyes are the best anymore.

I agree that you've got the focusing sorted, they look sharp in all the right places to me.

Those fast 50s sure are fun

This is my favority nifty fifty image I have gotten so far with my K10D. I was using a Calman +4 filter on the lens to turn it macro.

I have the f1.7, SMC-A. I love this lens. It makes a great portrait lens on digital since it is:
- incredibly fast, enabling sharp indoor shots
- natural, closed in telephoto
I have it on my camera most of the time. I installed a focusing screen that helps manual focusing too - my k100d is very old school.
