The year is 1753...
Posted By: newmikey, 06-17-2012, 03:45 PM

And the town is that of Alkmaar, a small town in the North-West of the Netherlands - 1573, the year it fought bravely against the advancing Spaniards and, as the first city in the Netherlands, won the battle. This was the beginning of the end of the "80 year war" and the start of this new country - the Netherlands.

Beggars and sufferers from the pestilence or the plaque roam the streets. It's not safe, I tell ya!

First thing I thought of - "I'm not dead yet!"

Photographs looks good, slightly tone-mapped, which works here IMO.

Great shots, for sure - although, the next time I hop in my time machine, I think I'll give 1753 a pass; pestilence tends to get under my skin . . . . so to speak.

Apart from the skin tones being a bit on the reddish side, this is a very GOOD set !

The details are amazing, the composition too; the subjects make it almost real.

I tried getting the EXIF data ... what lens/camera dis you use?

Cheers.

Excellent portraits, I really enjoyed this one. I was surprised to discover, though, that people were wearing Vibram soles (#5) in 1753. :-)
Nice work!

Hi

In the old days the film industry used to employ a "Continuation Manager". During the course of shooting a movie he/she was responsible, among other things, to look out for modern footwear on period costumes and the odd plastic bottle lying around somewhere. These days it does not matter anymore because most, if not all, movies are shot in extreme close-up and handheld shaky camera technique so these little sins are not observable anymore. (Backgrounds are out of focus, so location continuation is no problem. Scenes can now be shot anywhere.) Makes for cheaper production.

In still photography... well it is another matter.

I like the the last image so much (it almost could have been shot in 1573) I decided to give it the final touch. Now, looking at this picture, one can be transplanted back in time and space of the 16th century.

Please don't employ the sort of punishment customary in those days for doing it.

Greetings
