Werribee Gorge Part 2
Camera: K-7 Photo Location: Werribee Gorge
Posted By: Bruce Clark, 06-18-2012, 06:23 AM

As promised some more of my recent hike in the Werribee Gorge
Rock face. Note the ~ shaped fold

Rock face 2. Another view of the folded rock. Powerful forces at work here.

A female Blue Wren coming down for a drink. These very small birds do not stay still for very long. These ones were quite shy and did not come to my side of the stream. I need a Bigma.

Her mate is not far behind. Minutes later a group of people came by and bye bye birdie.

A dried thistle head shows an awesome arsenal of weapons.

That's some rugged country Bruce, reminds me so much of our southwest here in the US. I can see why they are called Blue Wrens, great capture with the male reflection. Thanks for the view.

Interesting topography in your part of the world. I love that thistle shot. Nice bokeh and the flower is so sharp. Those birds are beautiful. Nice reflection of the male in the water.

I enjoyed those! I'm a desert loving person, and that looks a lot like our western deserts in places. The thistle is interesting ...we have some here in Texas almost identical...they are called devils claws here, if I am not mistaken. Haven't seen any in a long time, but remember them from when I was a kid.

Best Regards!

Forgot...I was going to ask if you have to be wary of venomous snakes when out and about in that country? Here we have those big Rattlers, and have to keep an eye out for them in desert lands...and no, they don't always rattle before they kill you!

A very appropriate name.

It is good snake country for sure. Two main varieties. Brown snakes tend to lurk in the rocks and drier areas while Tiger snakes favour the wetter areas. Both are highly venomous and their toxins are amongst the most poisonous in the world. Fortunately they are genneraly shy and try to escape but will turn agressive if cornered or stepped on. At this time of year they would be hibernating but come summer they will be out in force.
