Gray Ghost
Posted By: Workingdog, 01-22-2008, 06:04 PM

This Gray Ghost streamer was tied by my friend John Gray. I'm almost afraid to fish with this; it's a tiny work of art. It's a very good fly to use when the water is clear and the fish are wary. Please feel free to continue this thread by posting your own artistic fly tying efforts. Let's see if we can keep this thread going.

How did I miss this?
That is a gorgeous fly very nicely photographed. A work of art surely. To me this type of fly is the pinnacle of the fly tyers craft.
When I was tying commercially I wished that I had the time to work on flys like your example but instead I've gotten into other things, like photography:-). Now I'll usually spend a month or two in the winter to tie my coming season's flies. I've been putting it off so far this winter. You may have just jump started my efforts:-). I've taken a bunch of pictures but mainly testing my macro setups and using any old fly in my box.
My boss was talking about an article about a Mickey Finn sometime ago so I tied him an example and a couple for myself. This pales in comparison to your friend's effort but I'll post this and hope we can get some interest going:-).

Nice Mickey Finn. I thought the thread wasn't going anywhere, but it's nice to see some interest now. I'll post another when I get a chance.

Another great tie by my friend John Gray. I only wish I could tie like this. I hope the photo does it justice. I can't believe there aren't more flyfisher/photographers out their. The two pursuits go very well together.

Years ago (decades actually, but who's counting) my Dad had a friend who tied flys - I remember seeing some of his work and was really impressed. Seeing these makes me appreciate those even more - and I want to compliment y'all on the photos - VERY nice work!!

They're works of art WorkingDog,
would you mind if I post them on FlyBC? The flyfishing forum I'm involved with?

Blue Charm

This updated version of a Blue Charm uses a bit of blue mylar to add some flash. The blue on black really jumps out at you. Don't know who tied this one but I used it (unsuccessfully) on Nova Scotia's Margaree River whilst fishing for Atlantic Salmon on my honeymoon. Yeah, my wife is a saint.
PS Little Laker, you may use the photos on your flyfishing forum if you wish.
