My Helios accidents - Abstract flowers
Lens: Helios 44 Camera: K5 ISO: 100
Posted By: MSL, 06-24-2012, 10:58 AM

I recently got a Helios 44 (not a 44-N but a genuine dye in the wool, m42 mount Helios 44) which I've only started to experiment with. Short answer though is that I love it, and I love the way you can subtly adjust the apertures. Everyone raves about the bokeh or out of focus rendering the Helios give. Here are a couple of shots where the out of focus region was part of the main object.

For the second image, every time I look at it full screen I get a psychedelic feeling that the red regions are moving towards me.

I'm not sure I like either of the pictures, but I'd rate them as something a little different as far as flower shots go,

These shots make good abstracts. Colours are great.

Thanks EM. Second one has lost a little something shrinking it for posting, but it really does seem to move at me when I look at it. As to the colors these are unmodified RAW files (other than cropping/shrinking) which tells you a lot about the rendering of the lens.

Colors are fantastic. I can see where the second shot would seem to fly out at you. Hope to see more from you with this lens. That bokeh is really something.
