I agree, key is to get as close as possible. I guess a bigma would help a bit, but then you would [A] Have to use a tripod, or [B] Bump the ISO to get faster shutter speeds but then at the cost of DR and some detail loss.

Thanks Cee Cee - the Vireo was the easiest to shoot, it was actually quite aggressive in trying to get my attention and somewhat stalked me going down the trail, it followed me a good 25 yards...

Thanks slowpez - I have been trying to get a kingfisher shot for years, they are extremely difficult to shoot. I lucked out on this one, I was sitting in a waterfowl blind watching some heron's and some osprey when she flew in front of the blind and landed on the downed tree beside the blind. I couldn't get the shot I wanted, she had a small fish/minnow that she was gobbling up but her back was turned against me, after she finished the meal she then turned to the side so I could get the picture...
