Sacred Spaces
Lens: Sigma 70-300 macro Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Uxbridge, Ontario

I have been down south staying at my friend Kathy's place while taking care of business (making it hard to keep up with my Pentax friends). While there I was inspired and honoured to take photos of the many carvings and sacred objects in Kathy's backyard. Here is an album of my favourites.

These are beautiful. Is it your friend who does the actual carving?

Thanks luftfluss... no, and I tried to include the name of the artist, but he only has a first name (Steve) and an abandoned lot along the road Kathy travels (through Young's Point, Ontario). Next time I am down I am going to visit him. I think he has a gift.

Yeah, I'd say he has a gift!

Years ago I knew a couple who had a small, backwoods chalet and guesthouse where they took care of a quartet of elderly ladies. The fellow carved totem poles, they were (in my child's eye) amazing.

Thanks Bob, I will tell Kathy you'd like to stop in for tea and a tour! I actually messed up on quite a few of the carvings so there are many missing ... I found the whole process of photographing them quite inspiring.

Tess, you make photographing these kinds of objects look so easy but I know they aren't. Beautifully rendered. Thanks so much for sharing them.

Thank you Susan! And thank you for recognizing the challenges with these. I missed more than I got so I am doubly pleased with the ones that turned out!
