Camping with the Ancients
Lens: 43mm Camera: K5 Photo Location: Homolovi SP. Arizona
Posted By: Bob Harris, 06-30-2012, 07:41 PM

We pulled into Homolovi State Park in the high desert of Arizona near Winslow AZ. This is the land of the Anasazi/Hopi Indians, where they spent hundreds of years farming and building large communities. So we spent a couple of days exploring the area before leaving for New Mexico. We had very high winds with gusts up to 60mph and I think you can see the movement in the brush in these handheld photos. We found areas where fragments of hand painted pottery littered the desert floor, remnants of a civilization that was here over a 1000 years ago.

Another interesting area Bob. Looks to be a nice CG. Run by Native Americans?

Susan, it is ran by the Arizona SP system, you can see how large this area is, Terri and I were the only one there. Talk about isolation. Here is a link to this $25 a night CG.
