Cherohala Skyway and Tail of the Dragon
Posted By: slowpez, 07-09-2012, 07:21 AM

From our last trip.
The Cherohala Skyway travels through the Cherokee and Nantahala National Forests. It connects North Carolina and Tennessee. North Carolina got the most beautiful section but the end, Telico Plains, TN has the most wonderful bakery that makes the best artisan bread ever.
The last two shots are from The Tail of the Dragon. Motorcyclists come from all over to drive this stretch of winding, curvy mountain road. In the last shot, please not that the guy on the near side was packing heat. Wonder who he expected to meet on that road and could he actually take his hands off the handlebars to shoot someone?

Beautiful scenes. I've always loved the layered look of distant mountains, really inspires wanderlust.

#2 especially does it for me, I almost feel like I am right there.

I went here about 2 years ago for a car meet. It's amazing there.. blue skies, fresh air, amazing contrast to NYC.

Also - cops there are kinda nice if you respect them

Thanks for the nice comment. I'm sure it is quite a bit different from NYC.
I didn't mean to trash policemen. Still not sure the guy was a cop. Not sure of North Carolina's gun laws.

I told you Susan, only a cop would carry his stomach and handgun like that.

Thanks Barnster. It was fun to take the drive in the truck but some of the youngster on bikes are fearless. They would take some of those corners on their knees. Would love to have captured a photo of that.
