Breakfast sunshine
Lens: Sigma 18-220 Camera: K-5 Photo Location: dining room table ISO: 400
Posted By: snpsht, 07-11-2012, 12:17 AM

Sun shone in on the breakfast table and, having a brand new camera (my first very DSLR) I couldn't resist trying to capture this colourful scene.

What could be nicer than a shot of espresso and fruit to get going on a sunny winter's morn?

Constructive criticism welcome.....especially stuff about what sort of lens may have been more appropriate, what manual settings I might try in this sort of situation etc or what editing might enhance it....have done some minor cleaning up of dust on table, but from memory, not a lot else. I have the iPhoto editor so far.

Quite a nice shot, good focus and plenty of colour. Only criticism I could make is you are starting to blow out certain sections so something to consider on your next shots.

Welcome to DSLRmania. Nice still life. I agree with EM about the highlights. Keep shooting and posting.

Thanks for the comments.

It was much worse on some of the shots taken at the same time. Any suggestions on how I stop it happening, and/or is this why I am going to need to take the camera off auto (which will happen before too long)?

Many times I use my camera on manual( just like the old days) where you set the speed and f/stops by what the light meter is indicating and go from there.Keep experimenting and good luck.---charliezap
