At your service

Ok, so I think it's about time I share something with you all. Here's a shot of the 2 TD centres that my mother worked at as a cleaning lady for many years. She has since passed and I find myself returning to this location on several occasions for some odd reason. Not exactly my best memory of her, but still a memory.

Pentax K100D with DA 18-55mm lens. It was originally shot in colour and I converted it to black and white.

Thanks D! I'm glad you like the B&W conversion, it's my first try at doing it through the RGB channels. Usually I convert my images by de-saturating but it didn't look the way I wanted it to when I tried it with this particular one.

Thanks Scott I'm really happy that you like the conversion, I wasn't sure if I did it right but your comments, as well as others gives me some confidence.

Memories!

I too have memories of the Towers. Back in the 70's, I worked for the TD Bank and spent many hours 3/4 of the way up one of those buildings.

I always considered my time living/working in the big city as sort of a prison sentence. I needed the good money I was being paid to make my break to the country where my heart called home.

The photo is very well done, as it gives me a chill and confirms I made the right decision in choosing the simple life.

Thanks!

You do the TD Towers justice - they're ugly as hell but your BW conversion has given 'em "life". Out of the 4 sets of towers at Queen and Bay they're the ugliest but then, they're the oldest.

Guys, the big city ain't so bad especially when you consider ALL the neighbourhoods and different cultures. The busniess area has it's own culture and so much to capture on "film".

Thanks Joele :-) I'm glad you liked it.

Tom, I wish I could call the 1000 Islands home. I yearn for the simple life out in the country and I'm still waiting for my big break. Thanks for stopping by and commenting :-)

Thanks Roscot!

I converted it to B&W by creating a new channel mixer layer. Then I went into the blue channel, (not sure if this makes a difference) and clicked on monochrome. From there I just started adjusting the RGB sliders until it felt right.

One detail that I left out is that I did a sky replacement, the sky was shot some time ago with my Sony H1. The picture size was a bit smaller so I did a little bit of cloning to fill in the gaps, and I adjusted the levels on the sky on a separate layer.

Cheers,
V.
