Visited the mountain gorilla's in Uganda last month while I was on holiday for three weeks. The experience of a lifetime and we were lucky we encountered the group quite early in the morning. Later in the day the light is more harsh and the gorilla's are also more active in the morning.

We had some close encounters, two silverbacks crossed our paths and one of those encounters one of the silverbacks came within half a meter from where I was standing.

A recommended activity when you plan to visit either Uganda or Rwanda in the near future. It 's get more expensive every year now but it's still more than worth the steep price to see those gorilla's for an hour.

Well done Eric - enjoyable series.

I remember watching a 10 minute youtube video of the gorillas recently when they came down and walked into one of the mobile camps. Seems they do this a handful of times a year. Amazing stuff.

Thanks.

I almost stayed at a lodge close to one of the gorilla families. It was not finished during my holidyay but a few days before we made our trip to the gorillas another family visited the campsite of the lodge. On the day we visited the gorillas it was close to another lodge still under construction. We only had to scramble a few minutes before we saw our first gorilla.

Excellent series. I like #3 a lot (is he talking on his cell phone?) but #4 the best. Was he wearing that twig on his head intentionally, or did it just happen to fall there?
How far away were you from the gorillas?

You have to keep a distance of 7 meters but sometimes the distance is smaller because the gorillas move to you. A few times the distance was less than one meter but you have to back up when the gorillas move too close. They share most of our DNA and one flu or common cold could be disastrous for them.

The twig fell on his head, it was an odd sight to see this majestic animal with an improvised crown on his head. The ranger told us this was the alfamale (Nshongi) so the crown was in place.

Those are excellent! Makes my Raccoon shots look pathetic, but at least I don't have to feed the Gorillas....I'm almost broke now from feeding animals, and Gorillas would break the bank for sure!

Wonderful shots, I enjoyed!

Regards!
