It has been about 6 years since we visited this part of the Rocky Mountains, the day was overcast and drizzly but did have the sun break through while at the lake. The sad thing that we observed is the bark beetle infestation that has killed literally thousands of trees. The park is still a wonderful place to visit, breathtaking views and glaciers, but lets hope the drought ends so the forest doesn't lose anymore of these beautiful pines.

The bark beetle seems to be invading a lot of areas that we have visited, from California all the way up here in Montana. They cut the trees down and spray, but the only thing that really helps is when the drought ends it seems to me. Thanks for looking and commenting Bruce, always appreciated. Bob

Tess, while we were there, we had 3 days of rain which dampened the area to prevent fires hopefully for awhile. I think most of the rain went down river though.

Charlie, until these trees get enough moisture in them, they will continue to die off. I don't think your area has anything to worry about concerning the beetle.

I wish we had a little more sun, but it rained heavily so that is the main thing. The river at our campground in Loveland, CO turned from a creek to a roaring river in just a few hours from the runoff.

some fine shots, love the reflections, pity about the bugs, I've not heard of these before. seems strange to me how individual trees are dying surrounded by what looks like healthy trees rather than an infected tree infecting the one next to it and so on.
