Bar Shouldered Dove
Lens: DAL 55-300 Camera: K7 Photo Location: Lake Bennett NT
Posted By: Bruce Clark, 07-15-2012, 11:58 PM

A pair of Bar Shouldered doves sunbathing top to toe on the shores of Lake Bennet, Nothern Territory.

A few momwents later one swapped direction and raised one wing as if saluting.

Apparently this is typical sunbathing behaviour for these birds.

Interesting ! They say pigeons / doves have 320 degree vision, in which case between them make that 360 degree and you did well to get any shot at all !

Never seen this species before. The rusty color under their wings must come from sunbathing . Thanks for sharing.
