The dark background helps to make the grass stand out a bit.

thanks for taking a look and your comments Dave, I take your point it is pretty busy, I did take some "less busy" shots but somehow this one appealed to me, not sure why, it's interesting to get other opinions, thanks for the feedback. No flash, just the winter Sun, low in the sky from behind and to the the left.
cheers

thanks for commenting Bob & Susan, not a great deal of PP here, this is one of those occasions where the dynamic range of the camera doesn't match what the eye sees, the exposure needed to avoid blowing out the highlights in the grass made the background darker than what it really was to look at, I tried to use this to advantage. Just a small tweek of the curves and a tiny bit of sharpning
cheers

Great image. I go along with Dave on this. Just crop out some of the sides (little on the left, a bit more on the right) should give it more impact.

I can see what your getting at, maybe something like this, (feel free to play with it if you like) Looking at the original now I think what I liked about it was the diagonal (top left - bottom right) created by the grass & the background. Thanks for your comments, much appreciated.
cheers

You nailed it when you said that the eye sees one image and the camera another.I wish I had a dollar when my eye saw a pic but the camera didn't.It's all part of the game.--charliezap
